摘 要:歧义是自然语言中普遍存在的一种现象。英语中的歧义句常给人们的准确理解带来困难,造成一定的交流障碍。然而恰当的使用歧义句却可以达到极好的修辞效果,其一语双关的特有功能常被灵活使用以达到讽刺、幽默等效果。本文旨在从歧义的角度对英语言语幽默进行深入研究,主要论证了英语歧义出现的不同层次,如语法歧义、语音歧义和词汇歧义,并研究分析了英语歧义产生的原因及其所带来的幽默效果,从而挖掘歧义在我们生活中的积极意义。此项研究的重要意义在于:首先,它有利于加深对歧义产生言语幽默这一现象的理解;其次,它有助于提高英语学习者理解和赏析言语幽默的能力。

The Study of English Verbal
Humor from the Perspective of Ambiguity

    Abstract: Ambiguity is a common phenomenon in natural language. In English, sentences with ambiguity is difficult for people to understand accurately, and it will cause certain communication obstacles. However, appropriate use of ambiguity sentence can achieve excellent rhetoric effect, its special function, known as pun, is frequently and flexibly used to reach the effect such as irony and humor. The thesis aims to study English verbal humor from the perspective of ambiguity. It mainly demonstrates ambiguity at different levels, such as grammatical ambiguity, phonological ambiguity, lexical ambiguity, and the paper mainly analyses the causes of English ambiguity and its humor effects, thus excavate its positive significance in our life. The significance of this research lies in: Firstly, it is conducive to deepen our understanding of verbal humor produced by ambiguity; Secondly, it helps to improve English learners’ ability to understand and appreciate verbal humor.
